Frequently Asked Questions about Memory Upgrades What brand of memory upgrade will I be getting? We distribute only the following name-brand components : Toshiba, IBM, NEC, Fujitsu, Hitachi, Hyundai, Micron, Mitsubishi, Samsung, Texas Instruments, and Goldstar. So what you receive from us will be one of these brands. No generic brands sold here. We also no longer sell the brands Kingmax (KTI) and Transcend. Can I specify the brand of memory upgrade that I want you to send me? No. We ship whatever is in stock at the time you place your order. We believe that the quality of all the brands we use should be sufficient for you to have peace of mind. Do you provide the specifications on your memory upgrades? No, since we consider this as proprietary information which we will not divulge to anybody. We believe that our guarantee of 100% compatibility should be sufficient. If you truly need specifications before you can make a purchase, then you must contact the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) who manufactured your computing device, and ask them for their specifications. Our specifications will be 100% identical to their specifications. We will never provide specifications to anybody outside our company. My computer uses PC-100 or PC-133 SDRAM dimms, but your listing does not specify which type you sell. Why do you not specify exactly what type you offer, and how do I know that you are selling the correct memory for my system? Many of our competitors visit our website just to get proprietary information which we have accumulated over the years and are trying to protect, which is why we do not list the complete specifications. However, we guarantee that the specifications of our memory modules will be 100% identical to the specifications of your system manufacturer. So we guarantee to ship you whatever your system manufacturer specifies. We exert every effort to research every system listed in our online catalog to make sure that all our products meet the prescribed OEM specifications. How many pieces will I be receiving with my memory upgrade order? We guarantee that whatever memory upgrade we ship to you will contain the correct number of pieces required to function properly in your computing device. For example, if you have a computing device that only recognizes memory installed in pairs, and you order a 32MB Memory Upgrade, we will only ship you two (2) pieces of 16MB modules, and not a single piece of a 32MB module, since your computing device will not recognize memory installed in singles. By the same token, if, for example, you want to purchase a total of 64MB, and even if you know that your computing device takes memory modules in pairs, please do not ask us to quote 32MB upgrades, since we will end up quoting you a 32MB upgrade kit consisting of two (2) 16MB modules, instead of a 64MB upgrade kit consisting of two (2) 32MB modules. So when you place an order, make sure that you order the TOTAL amount of memory that you want to purchase, and not what "you" think is correct - and leave it to us to decide what to send you. I'm thinking of buying some memory for my printer. Does the memory you list include the board and the memory, or is it just the memory without the board or just the board without the memory? All our memory upgrades come complete with everything you will need to install it properly, and you will not have to purchase anything else (unless otherwise specified). My owner's manual states that the maximum ram in my computing device is less than what you list in your online catalog. Will your memory upgrade really work in my machine? Your owner's manual was probably written before the high-capacity modules were released into the market. The bottom line is this - If we list the product, then it will work. In other words, why would we list it just for you to return it to us? Will you be sending me modules with Tin/Silver leads (contacts) or modules with Gold leads/contacts? If you don't specify what you need (according to your owner's manual), we reserve the option to send you whatever we have in stock at the time of your order. So if your manual specifies a certain type, please state so when you place your order. But if you own a portable, laptop, notebook, or sub-notebook, you need not worry about tin lead or gold lead contacts. Such choices apply only to owners of desktop and tower computers. Do you include installation instructions with your memory upgrades? With most of them, yes. Other products are so simple and easy to install that no instructions are actually needed. 99% of our customers never need help with installation. What if I need help with installation of a product that came with no installation instructions? If you need help with the installation of a memory upgrade that you purchased from us, please visit our Customer Service section. I have some used memory in my computing device, but I need more memory. Can I trade in the used ones I have, or do you buy back used memory? No. We do not accept trades nor do we buy back used memory, since this is the only way to prove that whatever we sell is factory brand-new. It is quite obvious that anybody that buys used memory or accepts trade-ins also sells used memory, regardless of what they tell you or what anyone else says. Will the memory upgrade that you will be sending be added to my existing memory, or will it replace the existing memory that is already installed in my computing device? It could be either, depending on your existing configuration. If you have any open memory sockets, then whatever you purchase from us will be in addition to your existing memory (in most cases). If you do not have any available memory sockets, then of course whatever you purchase from us will be used to replace what you already have. In some cases, even if you have available memory sockets, what you purchase from us will be used to replace your existing memory. We have seen many instances where a computer manufacturer has released two identical models where one has an available memory socket and the other one (exact same model) has no available memory socket. There are too many different situations for there to be one rule as far as replacing memory is concerned. You have to consult your owner's manual or the manufacturer of your computing device to be 100% sure. Will the
memory module you ship to me have dram chips only on one side of the
module, making it a single-bank, or will it have dram chips on both sides
of the module, which is a double-bank? The number of
dram chips does not dictate the capacity of the module, since there are
low-density and high density dram chips. In other words, for a 64MB
module, for example, it is possible to have only four (4) dram chips or
eight (8) dram chips, depending on the density of the dram chips being
used. Obviously, this is also the reason why there are 512MB and 1GB
modules with the same number of dram chips as a 64MB module. |
